About Praia das Figueiras

Figueiras is a cove of fine white sand on Monteagudo, the northern island of the Cíes archipelago off Vigo, part of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park. It is about 300 m long with calm, turquoise water sheltered by the island from the open Atlantic swell. It is also known as the Beach of the Germans: a German family living in Vigo is said to have started nude bathing here in the 1950s, making it one of the earliest naturist beaches in Spain, and it remains the archipelago's nudist beach. The Spanish Naturist Federation lists it, and other guides confirm its nudist character. There is a lifeguard in summer but no bar on the sand; services are near the pier and campsite. Visitor numbers to the islands are capped, so the beach rarely feels crowded.

Getting there

Take a ferry from Vigo to the pier on the Cíes; tickets and the compulsory island visitor permit should be booked in advance, and daily numbers are capped at about 2,200 in summer. From the pier, turn right (left if facing the sea) and the beach is a few minutes' walk. Overnight stays require a campsite booking. Paths are unpaved.

Legal context

Nudity is not prohibited on Galician beaches, and Figueiras has been used nude by custom for decades. It lies in a national park with daily visitor caps, permit requirements and rules on camping and waste (2026).

Naturism at Praia das Figueiras sits under Spain's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
