About Praia da Galheta
Galheta is a small, undeveloped surf beach on the east coast of Santa Catarina Island in Florianópolis, tucked between Praia Mole to the south and Barra da Lagoa to the north. It sits inside a protected area, the Monumento Natural Municipal da Galheta, and has no roads, buildings or kiosks: the only way in is on foot over the headlands. For more than 40 years Galheta was the city's naturist beach, and from 1997 to 2016 nude bathing there was formally allowed, though optional. That permission ended when the area was reclassified as a natural monument, and the council now says nudism is not allowed, although some naturists still use the beach and local campaigners are pushing a bill to legalise it again. In practice the crowd is mixed and on quiet days most visitors are clothed. The beach faces the open Atlantic and has rocky headlands at both ends. The Mole trail and the area near it are known as gay cruising grounds, and there has been at least one reported serious assault on the trail, so visitors are advised not to walk it alone at quiet times.
Getting there
The usual route starts at the north end of Praia Mole: an easy trail of roughly 300 m (sources say 5 to 15 minutes) leads over the headland to the park entrance and the beach. Park or arrive by bus or ride-hail at Praia Mole; parking there is busy in summer. A longer alternative is the Trilha da Boa Vista from Barra da Lagoa, about 70 minutes each way. There is no step-free access.

Recent accounts describe a beautiful, wild beach that is now mostly clothed, especially outside summer weekends, with only a few naturists. Long-time visitors and local writers regret the end of legal nudism and see Galheta as the city's natural naturist beach. Visitors note the cruising scene along the Mole trail, and news reports of crime on the trail mean people advise going in company and in daylight. Bring water and food since there is nothing on the beach.

Nudism at Galheta was permitted (optional) by municipal Lei CMF 195/97, but the 2016 law reclassifying the area as the Monumento Natural Municipal da Galheta (Lei 10.100) ended that permission; the city council says nudism is not currently allowed and the city applies ordinary beach rules. A bill to regulate naturism on the beach (not the trails) passed the council's justice committee but, as far as we found, has not been enacted.
