About Praia da Figueira

Praia da Figueira is a small, undeveloped beach on the western Algarve coast in Vila do Bispo municipality (Budens parish), between Salema and Sagres, inside the Costa Vicentina natural park area. It sits at the mouth of a narrow valley below the hamlet of Figueira, with fine sand enclosed by cliffs and no buildings or services. Nude bathing is a long-standing informal practice here: tourism listings name nudism among the beach's uses, naturist guides describe it as a quiet nudist beach, and the Clube Naturista do Algarve has held gatherings on the sand and includes Figueira in its list of Algarve nude beaches. Because you have to walk in, it stays far less crowded than the resort beaches nearby even in summer. There is no lifeguard and no shade, so bring everything you need.

Getting there

From the N125 between Lagos and Vila do Bispo, turn off for the hamlet of Figueira. A paved road leads to a parking area about 500 m from the beach; from there a dirt track follows a narrow valley down to the sand, roughly a 15-20 minute walk on rough ground. Visitors say the route can be hard to find the first time. There is no public transport to the beach and no wheelchair access.

What visitors say

Visitors describe Figueira as a quiet, unspoilt cove with fine sand where nudity is common and relaxed, and few people make the walk down. The main complaints are the lack of any facilities and the difficulty of finding the path, which takes 15-20 minutes over rough ground. Naturists recommend bringing water, food and shade.
