About Praia Da Barra
Barra is a 750-metre beach of fine white sand at the mouth of the Ría de Vigo, on the Costa da Vela near Cabo Home in Cangas do Morrazo. It faces the Cíes Islands directly across the water and looks back towards Vigo, while the Morrazo peninsula shelters it from northerly winds. Pine woods run down to the sand, and the area is part of a Natura 2000 protected site. Barra is widely considered the best naturist beach in Galicia and one of the best on the Iberian peninsula; Spain's national tourism portal describes it as a nudist beach, and the Spanish Naturist Federation calls it both very nudist and very family-oriented. It holds a Blue Flag. Occupancy is high in summer. The water is cold Atlantic water with moderate waves and some wind. A summer beach bar operates nearby, but there are no lifeguards or showers on the sand according to the federation. Neighbouring Nerga beach, over a rocky headland, also has some nude bathers.
Getting there
On the PO-1006 from O Hío towards Donón, pass the turn for Nerga and take the next left signposted Playa de Barra. A guarded car park sits about 200 metres from the beach (one review quotes about EUR 2.50 a day); from there several paths lead through the pines to the sand, and the federation notes you can leave clothes in the car and walk down nude. You can also walk over from Nerga beach. Not wheelchair accessible.
What visitors say
Visitors rate Barra as a beautiful, well-kept beach with a relaxed, mostly naturist crowd that includes many families and couples. The views of the Cíes Islands are a highlight. The walk through the pines from the car park is short and easy. Common tips: arrive early in July and August because the car park fills, bring layers as the wind can pick up, and expect cold water.
