About Playa Valdelagrana

Playa de Levante is the wild southern continuation of Valdelagrana beach in El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz, running inside the Los Toruños metropolitan park, part of the Bahía de Cádiz natural park. Where the Valdelagrana promenade and apartment blocks stop, the coast becomes a long sandspit of golden sand backed by dunes, salt marsh and the mouth of the San Pedro river, with no buildings behind it. The Spanish Naturist Federation gives it as about 4.3 km long and 55 m wide, with calm but often windy water and light use. The nude section is roughly halfway along, around 1.7 km beyond the end of Valdelagrana, and is commonly described as the only nudist area on the Bay of Cádiz. Lifeguards cover the beach in summer but there are no bars, umbrellas or showers, so bring water and shade.

Getting there

Walk south along the shore from the end of the Valdelagrana promenade (about 1.7 km to the nude area), or enter through Los Toruños park. Drivers can park near the Las Aletas train station or at the park and walk about 2 km. Buses from Cádiz stop near the park entrance. The final stretch is on sand or park tracks, so wheelchair access to the nude section is poor.

What visitors say

Visitors describe a long, empty natural beach where the nude section is easy to find once you walk past the end of Valdelagrana. They note the lack of any services, the frequent wind and the long walk, and recommend bringing everything you need.

Legal context

Spanish law does not make simple nudity an offence (public-scandal offences were removed in 1988), so nude bathing is not illegal on Spanish beaches unless a municipal bylaw restricts it. Travel guides describe a stretch of Levante as set aside for nudists, but no municipal designation was found; nude use is accepted by custom (2026).

Naturism at Playa Valdelagrana sits under Spain's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
