About Playa Puerto Muelas
Puerto Muelas is one of the coves of the Papagayo coast at the southern tip of Lanzarote, in the municipality of Yaiza, inside the Los Ajaches Natural Monument. It is a sheltered bay of about 130 m of pale, fine sand surrounded by rocky slopes, with calm, clear turquoise water ideal for swimming and snorkelling. It is the main nude beach of the Papagayo area: naturists gather here and in the adjoining coves towards Playa del Pozo, while the central Papagayo beach is mostly clothed. The national tourism portal notes that nudism is practised and that there is an area for campers and caravans nearby, and the Spanish Naturist Federation lists it as a nudist-tradition beach. There is no lifeguard; FEN and the tourism portal mention showers and toilets in the area. It can get busy in high season, though it is quieter than the more famous Papagayo cove.
Getting there
Drive from Playa Blanca east along the unpaved track into the Los Ajaches Natural Monument; a vehicle fee of about 3 euros is charged at the entrance, payable by card only. Park at the Puerto Muelas parking area or the campsite zone and walk a few minutes down to the beach. The beach can also be reached on foot along the coast or by boat. Not wheelchair-accessible.
What visitors say
Guides consistently name Puerto Muelas as the place on the Papagayo coast where naturists gather, and describe a relaxed atmosphere. Opinions differ on crowds: some say it stays fairly quiet, others that it is busy in high season. The vehicle fee and the bumpy dirt track are common remarks.
