About Playa Nudista Montaña Arena
Montaña de Arena is a 250 m beach of dark sand just west of the Pasito Blanco marina in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, on the south coast of Gran Canaria between Maspalomas and Arguineguín. It takes its name from the large sand dune behind it. The water usually has a moderate swell. It is a long-standing spot for local nude bathers and is calmer than the resort beaches to the east. Kestrels hunt over the cliffs. There are no facilities or lifeguards, so carry your rubbish away. Regulars dislike cameras: photographing the scenery is fine, but do not point a lens at people or film.
Getting there
The beach is a few minutes' walk from the GC-500 between Maspalomas and Arguineguín; Global buses 01 and 31 pass along this road. By car, follow the sign for Las Carpinteras rather than 'Montaña Arena', which leads to the hill instead of the beach. From roadside parking, walk about 300 m to the east end of the dune and take the path down to the sand. The old path from Las Carpinteras to the west is eroded and difficult.
What visitors say
Guides describe a peaceful beach used mainly by local nude regulars, with a relaxed atmosphere outside summer weekends. Visitors appreciate the dune setting and quiet, but note the absence of facilities and the slightly confusing access; one guide suggests avoiding summer weekends when it is busiest.
