About Playa Mujeres
Playa Mujeres is the largest of the Papagayo beaches on the southern tip of Lanzarote, east of Playa Blanca in Yaiza, inside the Los Ajaches protected area. It is a broad bay of white sand, about 400 m long and 85 m deep, with calm, clear turquoise water and bare volcanic hills behind. Spain's tourism portal notes that one section is a naturist area: nude bathers mostly use the southern end and the small coves that link Mujeres with Playa del Pozo. The rest of the beach is clothed and it is one of the most popular beaches in this part of the island, so occupancy is high in season. There are no lifeguards, showers or bars on the sand.
Getting there
From Playa Blanca, follow the signs for the Papagayo beaches onto the dirt road into the protected area. A fee of about 3 euros per car was charged at the entrance gate in recent years (card payment only); arrive before about 9:30 or after 17:00 to avoid queues. From the parking areas it is a short walk down to the sand. You can also walk along the coast from Playa Blanca, or arrive by boat.
What visitors say
Visitors praise the white sand, calm clear water and scenery, and many call it one of Lanzarote's best beaches. Nude bathers say the southern end and the coves towards El Pozo are relaxed and accepted, while the main bay is busy and clothed. Complaints centre on the bumpy track, the car fee and queues at the gate, crowds in high season, and the lack of shade and facilities.
