About Playa Lomo Galeon
Lomo Galeón is a tiny, secluded cove on Gran Canaria's south-west coast in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, below the GC-500 coast road between the resorts of the south and Arguineguín. It is only around 30-50 m long, a pocket of boulders, pebbles and a little sand tucked between rocky headlands, with usually calm, clear water and a rocky bottom that suits snorkelling. There are no services at all: no lifeguard, kiosk, toilets or shade. Because the path down is steep and the cove is easy to miss from the road, it is often empty, and many of the people who do make the climb down sunbathe nude. It is not an officially designated nudist beach, but the Spanish Naturist Federation lists it among its nudist-tradition beaches and local guides describe nudity as the norm here. Space is very limited, so a handful of visitors can make it feel full.
Getting there
Park at the roadside on the GC-500 coast road above the cove, then take the steep, narrow track down to the shore, which takes a few minutes but needs care and sturdy shoes. Global buses run along the GC-500, but there is no stop at the cove itself. The beach is not suitable for people with limited mobility. Bring water and supplies, as there is nothing nearby.
What visitors say
Guides describe Lomo Galeón as a quiet, little-known cove where visitors usually have the place nearly to themselves and nudity is common. The steep track and lack of any facilities are the main warnings, along with the rocky entry to the water. The calm water is praised for snorkelling.
