About Playa Faro de Trafalgar
Playa del Faro de Trafalgar lies beside the Cape Trafalgar lighthouse in Barbate, Cádiz, on the sandy spit that links the cape to the mainland, a protected natural monument. The beach starts at the cape and runs north-west past Zahora towards Conil, a strand so long that its end is out of sight; FEN counts about 3 km on its own sheet. The sand is fine and golden, and the area is windy. Nude bathers use the beach and the small coves around the lighthouse, while Los Castillejos, on the other side towards Caños de Meca, is the area's best-known nude beach. Swimming here needs serious caution: strong cross-currents meet off the cape, swimming is banned in the coves right by the lighthouse, and FEN calls it one of the most dangerous beaches in Spain. The 34 m conical lighthouse dates from 1860, and the 1805 Battle of Trafalgar was fought offshore.
Getting there
Take the A-2233 from Conil towards Barbate. At Los Caños de Meca, a sign marked 'Faro' points to the lighthouse road. Leave the car and walk about 500 m along the track, with Caños beach on your left. There are no services at the beach. The nearby campsite sells food and drink, but bring water. Parking near the cape fills on summer days.
Amenities
Legal context
Spanish law does not prohibit public nudity, and FEN notes that nudism is legal on any Spanish beach; this beach is on FEN's list of beaches with a traditional nude use. Swimming is prohibited in the coves next to the lighthouse because of dangerous currents (a safety rule, not a nudity rule).
Naturism at Playa Faro de Trafalgar sits under Spain's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
