About Playa Esmeralda
Playa Esmeralda is a sandy bay on the Jandía peninsula in the south of Fuerteventura, in the municipality of Pájara, lying between the resort of Costa Calma and the long lagoon beaches of Sotavento. It is about 400 m of light sand backed by low cliffs and hotels, and it is noticeably more sheltered from the wind than the kitesurf beaches either side, so the water is often calm. Travel guides describe nude sunbathing as common here, with naturists spread along the quieter parts of the bay rather than in a marked zone, and at least one hotel guest has complained that nudists use all the beaches around the hotel. Because the beach is shared with clothed hotel guests, expect a mixed crowd. Listings mention beach services at the hotel end, but the far parts of the bay have none.
Getting there
From the FV-2 at Costa Calma, follow the signs south-west towards the hotels at Playa Esmeralda; the last stretch to some parts of the beach is a rough unpaved track, though cars can usually manage it. There is parking near the beach. Costa Calma has bus connections along the FV-2. Paths down from the cliff edge are short but uneven.
What visitors say
Visitors describe a calm, wind-sheltered bay that is quieter than the Sotavento lagoons. Nude sunbathers are a regular sight, usually away from the hotel frontage; some clothed hotel guests find this unwelcome, while naturists treat it as an easy, relaxed spot. The rough access track keeps numbers down.

Legal context
Spanish law does not make simple nudity an offence (public-scandal offences were removed in 1988), so nude bathing is not illegal on Spanish beaches unless a municipal bylaw restricts it. No Pájara bylaw concerning nudity at Playa Esmeralda was found (2026); nude use is informal and shared with clothed hotel guests.
Naturism at Playa Esmeralda sits under Spain's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
