About Playa El Río
Playa El Río is a 390 m beach of white sand and low dunes on the north-west coast of Fuerteventura, about 2 km from El Cotillo in La Oliva. The surroundings are bare and rocky, with a lighthouse at the end of the coast nearby. The beach is wide, about 70 m, and the water is calm though the wind is often strong. FEN lists it as a nude-tradition beach and occupancy is low. There are no services.
Getting there
From El Cotillo, follow the unpaved tracks along the coast for about 2.3 km; the beach can be reached by car or on foot with little difficulty. The nearest paved road is the FV-10, and buses run as far as El Cotillo. Parking is informal.
Legal context
Spanish law does not prohibit public nudity, and FEN notes that nudism is legal on any Spanish beach; this beach is on FEN's list of beaches with a traditional nude use. No restriction is known (2026).
Naturism at Playa El Río sits under Spain's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
