About Playa Diego Hernandez
Diego Hernández is a small golden-sand cove on the wild stretch of coast north of La Caleta in Adeje, south-west Tenerife, one of the few undeveloped beaches left in this part of the island. It is about 80 m long and 25 m deep at high tide, with more sand exposed at low tide, and clear turquoise water. Because no road reaches it, it is quiet, with an alternative crowd and a strong naturist presence; the Canary Islands tourism board marks it as a nudist zone. There are no facilities. Currents can be strong when the sea is up, so it suits confident swimmers best.
Getting there
There is no road. The usual route starts from the end of La Caleta near the Costa Adeje golf area, where a raised walkway leads to the coastal path. The walk takes roughly 20-45 minutes depending on your starting point, over rough, sometimes steep ground; wear proper shoes. Buses serve La Caleta. Not suitable for wheelchairs.
What visitors say
Walkers describe it as a calm, wild cove with an easy-going mix of nudists and hikers, reached by a rough path that takes longer than expected in the heat. Common tips are to go at low tide, take shoes, water and shade, and watch the currents when the sea is lively. Some say it gets busier at weekends. Opinions differ on walk time, from about 20 minutes to 45.
