About Playa del Viejo Reyes
Viejo Rey is a wild beach on Fuerteventura's exposed west coast, beside the small village of La Pared in Pájara, where the Jandía peninsula joins the rest of the island. It is close to a kilometre long, of golden sand below dark rock cliffs, and faces the open Atlantic, so the surf is strong and the wind frequent. It is well known among surfers for a powerful break. The Canary Islands tourism board describes it as a reference point for surfers and for lovers of freedom and nudism, and the Spanish Naturist Federation lists it as a beach of nudist tradition. Occupancy is low. There is no lifeguard and no showers on the sand, and currents can be strong, so swimming is often unwise; many visitors come for the scenery, sunbathing and surf rather than a swim.
Getting there
Drive to the village of La Pared; the beach lies close to its residential area and is reached by a dirt road from the edge of the village. The tourism board lists parking and a restaurant at the beach area; the last part is a walk down to the sand. There is no public transport to the beach itself and the final path is not wheelchair accessible.
