About Playa del Verodal
El Verodal is a small, striking beach at the far western end of El Hierro, in the municipality of Frontera, below steep cliffs. It is known for its reddish sand, mixed with dark gravel, which contrasts sharply with the cliffs and the deep blue Atlantic. The beach is about 150 metres long and narrow. The Canary Islands tourism board names it as one of El Hierro's two nudist beaches, and the Spanish Naturist Federation lists it as well. Occupancy is low. The sea here is powerful: waves are strong and currents dangerous, and the national tourism portal advises against swimming. Signs from the town hall and the environment ministry also warn of rockfall from the cliffs, so keep away from their base. There is a small picnic area, and lifeguards are present at busier times.
Getting there
Drive the signposted road to El Verodal in the west of the island; there is parking for about 30 cars a few metres from the beach, and the walk down is short and easy. There is no public transport to the beach. Heed the rockfall warning signs and do not sit beneath the cliffs.
