About Playa del Silencio O Gaviero

El Silencio, also called El Gavieiru or Gavieiro, is a curved pebble beach near Castañeras in Cudillero, western Asturias, and often counted among the most beautiful beaches in the region. It lies in a natural amphitheatre of cliffs, with rocks and islets of every shape rising out of the water just offshore. It is about 330 m long (other listings say 500 m), made of rounded pebbles, with a moderate swell. The beach has a nude tradition, but FEN reports that nude use has fallen in recent years as the access has been improved and visitor numbers have grown; the federation encourages naturists to return. There are no facilities.

Getting there

Drive to the village of Castañeras, about 16 km west of Cudillero off the N-632 / A-8, where the route is signposted. Leave the car in the village and walk about 10 minutes down a good path to the beach. The pebbles make it awkward going in normal footwear.
