About Playa del Plomo
Cala del Plomo is a small, sheltered bay in the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park and Biosphere Reserve in Almería, on the coast between Agua Amarga and Las Negras. It is about 260 m of white-to-golden sand with very clear, calm water and limestone reefs along the edges, making it excellent for snorkelling. A small hamlet of houses and the fortified Cortijo de la Rambla del Plomo lie along the valley behind. There are no services, no lifeguard and no bar. The Spanish Naturist Federation lists it as nudist and other guides describe nude bathing as usual here; FEN recommends a nude coastal walk of about 2 km towards Agua Amarga to Cala de Enmedio. Occupancy is generally low, though it has become better known through recent press coverage, and it gets busier in August.
Getting there
From the AL-5106 road to Agua Amarga, turn off towards Fernán Pérez and follow signs for Cala del Plomo along a narrow gravel track of more than 7 km (about 20 minutes at low speed in an ordinary car). Parking is almost on the beach. The coastal footpath from Agua Amarga or Las Negras also reaches the cove. No public transport.
What visitors say
Guides and press praise the cove's clear water and remoteness, while warning about the long gravel track. Some describe it as a hidden gem with few people; others note it has become more popular. Nude bathing is described as common, though one directory lists it as non-nudist.
