About Playa del Medio
Playa del Medio lies on the south-east coast of La Gomera in the municipality of San Sebastián, part of a run of three neighbouring coves with Tapahuga and Chinguarime, below the Tecina area of Playa de Santiago. It is about 300-350 m long, with dark volcanic sand mixed with gravel. FEN describes it as isolated and little used. The official tourism board notes that it is popular with nude bathers because the setting is remote and hard to reach. There are no bars, toilets, showers or lifeguards. Surf conditions vary, and the official page advises caution when bathing because of strong swell on some days. The three coves have long attracted alternative travellers and naturists.
Getting there
Take the GM-3 towards Playa de Santiago and Tapahuga beach; from there a dirt track leads on to Playa del Medio. Expect several kilometres of unpaved track; drive slowly or walk. There is no public transport to the beach and no shade.
Legal context
Spain has no national law against public nudity. The Canary Islands tourism board lists a nudist zone at Playa del Medio, and FEN lists it as a nudist-tradition beach. No local restrictions (checked 2026).
Naturism at Playa del Medio sits under Spain's rules for officially designated nude beaches — explicit protection inside the marked area.
