About Playa del Inglés

Playa del Inglés is the long urban beach of Gran Canaria's main southern resort in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, running about 2.7 km south-west until it merges with Maspalomas beach and the Maspalomas dunes nature reserve. The northern end in front of the resort is a busy clothed beach with sunbeds, lifeguards, showers and bars. Nude bathing starts further south where the beach runs along the dunes: the Canary Islands tourism board says the nudist area begins after Playa del Inglés proper, and guides place the naturist core roughly between kiosks 3 and 6. Around kiosk 7, marked by a rainbow flag, is a well-known gay nude section. The sand is fine and golden and the water usually calm. This is one of Europe's best-known nude beaches and is busy all year, with a mixed crowd of couples, singles and older naturists.

Getting there

Walk south from the Playa del Inglés seafront or from the Riu Palace area across the dunes on marked paths, around 20-30 minutes to the nude area; you can also walk north along the shore from Maspalomas lighthouse. Paid and street parking are available in the resort. The resort is served by intercity buses. The dune paths are soft sand and hard going in the heat.

What visitors say

Visitors describe the dune stretch as a huge, relaxed nude beach with a mixed international crowd, sunbeds and drinks available at the kiosks. Many note that the gay area near kiosk 7 is lively and that cruising in the dunes behind it is common, which some find off-putting. Recurring tips: walk well past the resort end for the nude zone, stay on dune paths, and bring sun protection, as there is little shade.

Naturism at Playa del Inglés sits under Spain's rules for officially designated nude beaches — explicit protection inside the marked area.
