About Playa del Charco
El Charco is a small natural cove on the coast north-east of Águilas in the Region of Murcia, within the Cabo Cope and Puntas de Calnegre regional park. It is roughly 100-160 m long, a mix of golden sand and rock, with moderate swell and clear water, set in an arid, undeveloped landscape of low hills and headlands. There are no services: no lifeguard, showers, toilets or bar. The Region of Murcia's tourism institute lists the beach as preferably nudist, and Águilas is one of the few Spanish municipalities that formally recognises nudist beaches; El Charco is the longest-standing of them, and El Rafal nearby was added later. The Spanish Naturist Federation also lists it. Visitor numbers are usually low to moderate, so it suits people who want a quiet nude day in a natural setting. Bring everything you need, including shade, as there is little natural cover.
Getting there
Drive from Águilas along the Cuesta de Gos road, past the Bar Pozico, then follow a rural dirt lane towards the coast. Parking is informal near the end of the lane, and a short footpath leads down to the cove. There is no public transport to the beach and no step-free route onto the sand.
Amenities
Legal context
The Region of Murcia's official tourism institute (ITREM) classes El Charco as a beach of preferably nudist use, and local press describes Águilas as officially recognising nude use here. It lies within a regional park, so park rules on vehicles and camping apply (2026).
Naturism at Playa del Charco sits under Spain's rules for officially designated nude beaches — explicit protection inside the marked area.
Full country law: Spain public nudity guide.
Naturist status confirmed against an official source on 24 October 2026.
