About Playa del Águila

Playa del Águila (also known as Playa de la Escalera) is a 600 m strip of golden sand at the foot of a cliff on the windswept north-west coast of Fuerteventura, in the municipality of La Oliva, a little south of El Cotillo. FEN describes it as isolated, about 24 m deep, with strong surf, frequent wind and very few visitors. Nothing has been built here: no bar, no lifeguard and no showers. The cliff behind and the difficult way down keep it almost empty, which makes it a natural spot for nude sunbathing. The Atlantic swell often makes swimming dangerous.

Getting there

The nearest main road is the FV-10 between La Oliva and El Cotillo, from which tracks lead towards the coast; from the clifftop the way down to the sand has been a ladder or steep scramble, reported to be in poor condition. Take great care and do not attempt it with small children or heavy bags. There is no public transport and no shade.

Legal context

Spain has no national law against public nudity. Playa del Águila is a FEN nudist-tradition beach; there is no signage or local ban (checked 2026).

Naturism at Playa del Águila sits under Spain's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
