About Playa de Xuño
Xuño is a 1 km strand of fine golden sand on the Atlantic coast of Porto do Son (A Coruña), backed by dunes, wetland and woodland. It lies in a Natura 2000 protected area next to the Xuño and Muro lagoons, both nature reserves, and well away from villages. FEN reports nude bathing along the whole beach. Rock outcrops break up the sand, and the beach is only about 28 m deep. The sea is usually rough and windy, there are no lifeguards or showers, and occupancy is low. A cove near the hostel at one end is where Ramón Sampedro, whose story was told in the film The Sea Inside, had the diving accident that left him paralysed, a reminder to check depth and swell before entering the water.
Getting there
The beach is reached on foot from the AC-550 coast road through Porto do Son. Paths lead down through the dunes and are easy; stay on them to protect the vegetation. Parking is informal near the road. There are no facilities, so bring water and shade.
Legal context
Spanish law does not prohibit public nudity, and FEN notes that nudism is legal on any Spanish beach; this beach is on FEN's list of beaches with a traditional nude use. Protected-area rules apply to the dunes and lagoons; no nudity restriction is known (2026).
Naturism at Playa de Xuño sits under Spain's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
