About Playa de Xagó
Xagó is one of the largest beaches in Asturias, nearly 2 km of golden sand on the west side of the Cabo de Peñas protected landscape in the municipality of Gozón, north of Avilés. Behind it lies a large dune system, around 35 hectares of ridges and hollows held together by marram grass, which is being restored after years of damage. The open Atlantic swell is usually strong, and Xagó is a well-known surf spot. The beach is semi-urban in character, with car parks, a couple of beach bars, toilets, showers and a seasonal lifeguard, and it gets busy in summer. Nudity is concentrated in the central part of the beach, in front of and among the dunes, rather than at the car park ends; the Spanish Naturist Federation lists Xagó as a nudist-tradition beach, and the Asturian naturist association has recommended it. Clothed beachgoers and surfers share the sand, so the atmosphere is mixed rather than fully naturist.
Getting there
From Avilés take the road towards Luanco and then turn off following signs for Cabo Peñas; a signed turning leads down to Xagó. There are large car parks behind the beach, busy on summer weekends. From the car parks, walk along the sand or boardwalks towards the central dune area for the nude section, about 10-15 minutes. Stay on marked paths to protect the dunes.
What visitors say
Guides describe Xagó as a big, open beach shared by surfers, families and nudists, with nude bathing concentrated in the dune area rather than at the ends. Visitors appreciate the space and the dune landscape, and warn about strong waves and wind. Facilities are considered good for a natural beach, and the area is described as tolerant of nudity rather than formally nudist.

Amenities
Legal context
Nudity is not prohibited on Asturian beaches and is tolerated at Xagó by long custom, mainly in the central dune area; it is not a municipally designated nudist beach. The dunes are under restoration and protection, so walking or camping on fenced areas is not allowed (2026).
Naturism at Playa de Xagó sits under Spain's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
