About Playa De Valdearenas

Valdearenas is the largest beach at Liencres, about 2.8 km of fine golden sand inside the Dunas de Liencres natural park, less than 20 km west of Santander. It is backed by a large active dune system, with dunes up to about 20 metres high, and pine woods, and it ends at the mouth of the river Pas. The surf is strong and the beach is popular with surfers. The Spanish Naturist Federation lists it as a beach of nudist tradition and says that in high season nude bathers gather towards the far end of the beach, near the river mouth; guides speak of a naturist stretch of a few hundred metres. Lifeguards, showers and restaurants are near the main car park. Dogs are not allowed, though visitors note many people bring them anyway. Sunsets over the sea are a highlight.

Getting there

A road through the pines (the CA-305 area) leads to a large car park with showers and restaurants, and accessible routes to the sand for people with reduced mobility. From there walk west along the beach towards the Pas estuary for the nude section. In summer the park limits parking at times. Stay on the boardwalks and do not climb the dunes.
