About Playa de sotavento
Sotavento is the long, sheltered sweep of sand on the south-east (leeward) coast of the Jandía peninsula in Pájara, Fuerteventura, close to Costa Calma and the big windsurf and kitesurf centres. FEN's entry covers a 1.1 km semi-urban section with golden sand, calm but often windy water, a lifeguard and light use. At low tide the sea pulls back to leave a vast lagoon and sandbanks, and walking out across them is one of the main attractions. The wind that makes it a world-class board-sports venue also means you often need a windbreak. Nude sunbathing is common along this coast, especially in the quieter stretches away from the hotels and the surf schools.
Getting there
Turn off the FV-2 between Costa Calma and Morro Jable; several dirt tracks lead down to free parking areas behind the dunes, including near the windsurf centre. Buses run along the FV-2 between Morro Jable and Costa Calma. The sand is soft, so wheelchair access to the shore is difficult.

Legal context
Spain has no national law against public nudity. Sotavento is a FEN nudist-tradition beach; nude and clothed bathers share it and we found no local ban (checked 2026).
Naturism at Playa de sotavento sits under Spain's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
Full country law: Spain public nudity guide.
Naturist status confirmed against an official source on 24 October 2026.
