About Playa de Sa Cánova
Sa Canova is one of the longest undeveloped beaches in Mallorca, running for about 1.5 to 1.8 km along the bay of Alcúdia between Son Serra de Marina and Colònia de Sant Pere in the municipality of Artà. It lies between Punta de sa Barraca and the Torrent de na Borges, backed by dunes and low scrub, and has been protected as an area of special natural interest since 1991. The beach is golden sand mixed with gravel, with moderate waves. The Spanish Naturist Federation lists it as a beach of nudist tradition. Guides differ on how nude it is: a Mallorca naturist guide calls it one of the island's largest nudist beaches, with nudity common along the whole length but most concentrated in the parts furthest from the access points, while Lonely Planet speaks only of the odd nudist. There are no toilets, showers, lifeguards, sunbeds or bars, which keeps it quiet even in summer.
Getting there
Most people approach from Son Serra de Marina at the western end, or from Colònia de Sant Pere and s'Estanyol along the coastal path, which is longer but pleasant. The nearest road is the Ma-3331. There are no facilities on the sand, so services are in the neighbouring villages. Walk along the beach away from the access points for the quieter nude areas. Not suitable for wheelchairs.
What visitors say
Guides describe Sa Canova as a wild, uncrowded beach that suits people wanting space and quiet. Naturist sources say nude bathing is common, especially towards the middle of the beach away from the entrances, while general guides see only a few nudists, so the mix varies by section and day. Recurring tips: there are no services on the sand, so bring water, food and shade.
