About Playa de Medio Almud
Medio Almud is a small cove on Gran Canaria's south-west coast in the municipality of Mogán, between Puerto Rico and Tauro. It sits at the foot of a dry ravine below the main coast road, close to the resorts but out of sight of them. The beach is short, under 90 metres, and made of rounded boulders and gravel rather than sand, so it never draws the crowds of the sandy resort beaches nearby. Spain's national tourism portal describes it as a nudist beach with very calm water, and the Spanish Naturist Federation lists it too. In practice it is a locals' spot: naturists from around the island use it because it is an easy walk from the road and rarely packed. There are no facilities at all, no shade and no lifeguard. The sheltered position means swimming is usually gentle, and the rocks at either end are good for snorkelling on calm days.
Getting there
Take the GC-500 coast road between Puerto Rico and Tauro and look for the signposted turn to Medio Almud; one guide places it just after the first tunnel past Tauro. The side road down to the beach is closed to cars, so park near the main road and walk down, about five minutes. Bus lines 31 and 33 stop at Medio Almud. The path is short but the beach itself is boulders, so it is not wheelchair accessible.
What visitors say
Guides describe Medio Almud as a relaxed beach used mostly by local naturists rather than tourists. It is valued for being close to the road yet rarely busy, with calm water. Common tips are to bring water, shade and a rubbish bag, since there are no services, and to wear sandals on the stones. Sources disagree on its size: official data say about 87 metres long, while one local guide calls it closer to 60 metres.
