About Playa de los Morteros
Los Morteros is a tiny, isolated cove on the rocky coast of La Caleta in Adeje, south-west Tenerife, inside the protected area around La Caleta. FEN gives it as only about 60 m long and 10 m deep. The shore is made of rounded boulders rather than sand, and there are no facilities of any kind. The water is usually calm, and the rocky seabed holds plenty of marine life, so it appeals to snorkellers. Getting in is the tricky part: submerged boulders make entry awkward, especially at high tide or when the sea is up. Because the only way in is on foot along the coastal path, it stays quiet, and nudity is the norm among the few people who make the walk. It sits close to Diego Hernández, a better-known nude beach on the same stretch of coast.
Getting there
Reach it on foot along the coastal path from La Caleta, the same route used for Diego Hernández beach. The path is rough, rocky and steep in places, so wear proper shoes and carry water; there is no shade on the way. There is no road to the cove and no parking at the beach; leave the car in La Caleta. Not accessible for wheelchairs or anyone unsteady on uneven ground.
What visitors say
Hikers who post about the cove describe it as quiet and wild, with no services and a rough, rocky path in. The most common warning is about getting in and out of the water over slippery submerged boulders when the sea is choppy or the tide is high. Snorkellers praise the marine life. Most see it as a quieter alternative to nearby Diego Hernández.
