About Playa de los Molinos

Os Muiños, also called Fortiñón or Saiáns, is a small cove on the open coast south of Vigo, tucked between the headlands of Punta Novío and Punta de Priegue in the parish of Saiáns. It looks straight out to the Cíes Islands across the mouth of the ría. The beach is about 120 m long and 60 m deep, with white sand, and it is sheltered from the wind more than most of this stretch. It is a mixed beach: nude and clothed bathers share the same sand rather than keeping to separate sections, and the crowd tends to be young. Because it is semi-urban, with houses close by, it fills up in summer and occupancy is high. The water usually has a moderate swell, so keep a close eye on small children. It holds a Blue Flag and, unusually for a nude-friendly beach, has a lifeguard, showers and a beach bar in season. FEN notes that mobile phone coverage is poor or absent down on the sand.

Getting there

The cove lies off the PO-325 coastal road between Vigo and Baiona; turn down the Camiño do Fortiñón towards the sea. There is a paid car park right next to the beach, and free roadside parking a little further away, which is the better bet on busy summer days. Walking in from the car park is short and easy. Vigo city buses run along the coast road towards Saiáns; check the current line before you travel. A ramp gives access to the sand.

What visitors say

Guides describe Os Muiños as a pretty, wind-sheltered cove that is busy in summer, mostly with locals from the nearby houses and younger visitors. Nude and clothed bathers mix without much friction. People like the Cíes view and the facilities, which are unusual for a nude-friendly beach. The drawbacks are the small size, the crowds on hot weekends and the lack of phone signal.
