About Playa de los Caños de Meca
Los Caños de Meca is a 2.7 km beach of golden sand in Barbate on the Costa de la Luz (Cádiz), stretching east from the Cape Trafalgar lighthouse along the foot of the cliffs of La Breña y Marismas del Barbate Natural Park. The western half fronts a laid-back village of bars, hostels and surf shops; the eastern half runs under the pine-topped cliffs, and this is where nude bathers go. Here freshwater springs, the 'caños' that give the place its name, seep and trickle down the rock face, and the largest, Caño Grande, near the end of the cliffs, can only be reached at low tide. The Atlantic is often windy with moderate waves. Lifeguards and showers operate in season on the main stretch. Nudists also use the beach immediately east of Cape Trafalgar.
Getting there
Caños de Meca is on the A-2233 between Barbate and Conil. Park in the village (spaces are scarce in August) and walk east along the sand toward the cliffs; the nude area starts beyond the last buildings. Time your walk for low tide, as high water covers much of the beach under the cliffs and can cut you off. The 7.2 km Sendero del Acantilado clifftop trail to Barbate, past the 16th-century Torre del Tajo, gives views over the area. The village beach has easy access; the cliff section does not.
What visitors say
Visitors love the eastern stretch under the cliffs, with its freshwater springs and the sense of isolation just minutes from a lively village. The advice repeated most often is to check the tide, because high water covers the cliff beach. The levante wind can make some days unpleasant. Nudity is relaxed and normal past the village.

Amenities
Legal context
Spain has no national law against nudity in public. Nudity at the eastern end of Caños de Meca is long-standing and listed by the Spanish Naturist Federation. Barbate has had no nudity ban that we found, but the cliffs are in a protected natural park, so no camping or fires.
Naturism at Playa de los Caños de Meca sits under Spain's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
