About Playa de los Alemanes

Area Brava, better known as Os Alemáns ('the Germans'), is on the A Mariña coast of Lugo in Foz, near the boundary with Burela and a couple of kilometres from Burela's Burelés area. Rather than one open beach, it is a string of small sandy coves between rocks, about 165 m in all, with pale sand and moderate waves. It is the most popular nude beach in A Mariña and is very quiet, tucked away from the road with no services. In 2018 Foz town council formally declared it a nudist beach by ordinance. FEN welcomes the recognition but criticises the move, arguing that designating some beaches nudist implies restricting nudity on others, which it says is contrary to Spanish law. Dogs on leads are allowed.

Getting there

Os Alemáns is reached on foot by a path; directories describe access as difficult. The beach has no car park of its own, so look for roadside parking on the coastal road between Foz and Burela and follow the path down to the coves. The rocks between the coves need some care, and there is no adapted access or public transport to the beach itself.

Legal context

Foz town council declared Os Alemáns (Area Brava) a nudist beach by municipal ordinance in 2018, so nudity here is formally recognised. FEN disputes the legality of beach-by-beach designations, citing the Spanish Ombudsman and court rulings that nudity cannot be banned elsewhere; in Spain public nudity is not a crime.

Naturism at Playa de los Alemanes sits under Spain's rules for officially designated nude beaches — explicit protection inside the marked area.
