About Playa de Langre
Langre is a dramatic beach in Ribamontán al Mar, a short drive from Santander across the bay, set beneath an arc of vertical cliffs roughly nine storeys high. It has two parts: the large main beach (Langre II), about 800 metres of golden sand, and a smaller cove (Langre I) to one side that can be reached across the sand at low tide. The main beach is informally divided, with a nude area and a clothed area, and the Spanish Naturist Federation describes it as having a well-established family nudist tradition. Some visitors note that clothed bathers increasingly spread into the nude part. The sea is open, windy and often rough, with strong currents, so swim with care; lifeguards cover the beach in summer. In summer an ice-cream stall is lowered down the cliff to the sand.
Getting there
Park at the cliff-top viewpoint above the beach; when that is full, there is a paid meadow car park nearby. From the viewpoint, steps lead down to the main beach. The stairs make access difficult for people with reduced mobility. Langre I is reached by crossing from the main beach at low tide; directories describe its own access as hazardous.
What visitors say
Visitors describe Langre as one of the most spectacular beaches in Cantabria, with the cliff setting the main draw. The nude section is relaxed and family-friendly, but some complain that clothed bathers drift into it. Common warnings: the stairs are steep, parking fills on sunny days, and the currents can be dangerous.
