About Playa de la Murtra

La Murtra is a small beach in Viladecans, south-west of Barcelona, right on the boundary with Gavà, from which it is separated by a stream (riera). It is one of the four beaches of Viladecans, a protected stretch of dunes with stone pines between the Remolar and La Murtra lagoons. La Murtra itself is about 180 m long but around 100 m deep, with golden sand and usually calm but sometimes windy water. It is a beach of long-standing nude tradition, quieter than the city beaches closer to Barcelona. In season it has lifeguards and showers. A path links it to neighbouring Pineda de Cal Francès beach, and there is a viewpoint between the Remolar and Cal Francès beaches worth walking to. Planes from Barcelona's El Prat airport pass over this coast.

Getting there

Drive to the Viladecans beaches (signposted from the C-31) and use the beach car park, which charges from 8:00 to 20:00 (5 euros for 12 hours in 2018; prices may have changed). From the car park, walk through the pines and dunes to the sand; the walk is short and flat. A path along the back of the beaches connects La Murtra with Cal Francès.

Legal context

Spain has no national law against nudity in public, and Catalan practice generally tolerates nude bathing. La Murtra is a beach of nudist tradition listed by the Spanish Naturist Federation; we found no specific ordinance. The dunes are protected, so stay on paths.

Naturism at Playa de la Murtra sits under Spain's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.

Naturist status confirmed against an official source on 24 October 2026.
