About Playa de la Morena

Playa de la Morena, often called Cala Morena or simply El Portús, is a small cove about 10 km south-west of Cartagena, beside the village of El Portús. A rocky headland separates it from the village's public beach. FEN gives it as about 130 m long, of gravel and sand with moderate waves, and notes that it is often busy. For decades the cove was the beach of the El Portús naturist campsite, one of Spain's best-known naturist sites, and nudity here was the norm. That changed when the campsite was refurbished in 2024–2025 and reopened as a textile site. FEN now urges naturists to keep using the beach nude, and argues that public access should not depend on passing through the campsite. Expect a mixed and changing situation. The cove is narrow and has no facilities of its own.

Getting there

El Portús is reached from Cartagena via the RM-332 road. Park in the village, near the public El Portús beach. Cala Morena is beyond the headland, and access has been through the El Portús campsite, which FEN criticises as making the beach semi-private. ALSA urban buses run from Cartagena toward the area (line 4), and a beach bus (line 12) goes to El Portús in July and August. There is no adapted access to the cove.

Legal context

Spain has no national law against nudity in public, and Cala Morena has a long naturist tradition. Since the neighbouring campsite dropped naturism in 2024–2025, campsite reviews mention that nudity is now prohibited inside the site. FEN maintains that the beach itself remains public and should have free direct access.

Naturism at Playa de la Morena sits under Spain's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
