About Playa de Butihondo
Butihondo, also called Esquinzo-Butihondo, is a long golden-sand beach on the south-east coast of the Jandía peninsula in Fuerteventura, in Pájara municipality, a few kilometres north of Morro Jable. It runs for about 1.5 km (some sources say more) in front of the Esquinzo-Butihondo hotel development, and low rocky points divide it into sections, which gives each part some privacy. The water is usually calm but the coast is windy. Nude bathing is common, particularly towards the northern end, and the Jandía coast as a whole is one of Spain's best-known areas for naturism. The Spanish Naturist Federation lists Butihondo as a nudist-tradition beach with low occupancy. Facilities are good for a nude beach: lifeguards, showers, toilets, sunbed and parasol hire, and small beach bars along its length.
Getting there
Butihondo lies off the FV-2 between Costa Calma and Morro Jable; access roads lead down through the Esquinzo-Butihondo development to the coast, where there is parking. Paths and steps descend to the sand. Buses between Morro Jable and Costa Calma run along the FV-2. Ask for 'Esquinzo-Butihondo' rather than just 'Esquinzo', which can refer to a different place.
What visitors say
Guides describe Butihondo as an easy, well-serviced beach where nude bathing is common, especially in the northern section, and the rocky dividers give a sense of privacy. Visitors note the wind and recommend a windbreak. Sources disagree slightly on the beach's length.
