About Playa de Basoñas
Basoñas is a small cove in Porto do Son on the Barbanza peninsula (A Coruña), joined by a low rocky outcrop to the long beach of Areas Longas (also called Area Longa or Baroña), so the two are often treated as one. Together they stretch for more than 2 km of golden to white sand facing the open Atlantic, with strong waves and frequent wind. The Spanish Naturist Federation lists them as naturist beaches; general directories mark Area Longa as nudist and the Basoñas end as partly nudist, so nude use is concentrated rather than across the whole length. The setting is undeveloped dunes and rocks, with low occupancy, close to the Iron Age hillfort of Castro de Baroña. There are no lifeguards; one directory mentions basic toilets. Sea conditions demand caution when swimming.
Getting there
Reached from the coast road south of Porto do Son, near the turn for Castro de Baroña; park near the access paths and walk a few minutes across the dunes to the sand. There is no public transport to the beach itself. The sand and dunes make it unsuitable for wheelchairs.
