About Playa de Aguamarga
The beach of Agua Amarga is the main beach of the small whitewashed village of the same name in Níjar, on the northern edge of the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park in Almería. It is a broad, urban beach of a little over half a kilometre of fine golden sand, with calm water and full services: lifeguards, bars and ice-cream kiosks on the sand, and an adapted access for disabled visitors. It is a mixed beach. The Spanish Naturist Federation lists it, but notes that in July and August nudity becomes scarce or is confined to one end, as families fill the beach; some small caves line its western flank. Outside the peak months nude bathing is more common. Naturists looking for a quieter, fully nude setting usually walk on to the coves of Cala de Enmedio and Cala del Plomo to the south-west.
Getting there
Agua Amarga village is signed from the A-7 motorway and the coast road from Carboneras; park in the village, which gets busy in summer. The beach is directly in front of the village, with level access and an adapted entry for people with reduced mobility. From the beach, footpaths continue to Cala de Enmedio (about 30 minutes).
What visitors say
Guides describe Agua Amarga as a mixed beach where clothed and nude bathers share the sand, pleasant and well serviced but busy in July and August. Naturists commonly recommend continuing to the nearby coves of Cala de Enmedio and Cala del Plomo for a more naturist atmosphere.
