About Playa Almanat

The naturist beach known as Almanat is the nude stretch of Playa de Almayate in the municipality of Vélez-Málaga, on the Axarquía coast about 25 km east of Málaga, between Torre del Mar and the mouth of the Vélez river. It takes its name from the Almanat naturist campsite, which sits directly behind the sand on the N-340 at km 269 and is open year-round. The beach is about 2.8 km long and 30 m wide, of dark grey sand with moderate waves, backed by farmland of the Vélez river plain rather than by tower blocks, which makes it one of the few undeveloped stretches left on this coast. There is no promenade and no natural shade. The Vélez-Málaga council's beach brochure calls it one of the best-known and most visited nudist beaches among naturists, and it attracts a regular crowd of campers, Málaga locals and Northern European winter visitors. It is usually not crowded even in high season.

Getting there

Drive the N-340 coast road between Torre del Mar and Almayate; the beach lies by km 269, next to the Almanat campsite. Guides list an unsupervised free car park with over 100 spaces, and the interurban Málaga–Vélez bus stops about 200 m away. From the parking it is a short flat walk across sand. The beach is listed as having no adapted access for people with disabilities.

What visitors say

Guides describe Almayate's nude beach as quiet, natural and spacious, a survival of the coast before mass development, with few services but a loyal naturist following, many staying at the campsite behind it. The dark sand gets hot in summer. Visitors note that the beach is usually uncrowded even in high season.

Legal context

Public nudity is not an offence in Spain, and the Vélez-Málaga council's own beach brochure promotes Almayate as a nudist beach. No municipal ordinance formally delimiting the nude zone was found (checked 2026).

Naturism at Playa Almanat sits under Spain's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
