About Platja naturista Els Muntanyans

Platja dels Muntanyans is the long natural beach between the town of Torredembarra and Creixell on the Costa Daurada, in Tarragona province. It runs for about 2.2 km of fine golden sand sloping gently into usually calm, clear water, and is backed not by buildings but by the Platja de Torredembarra i Creixell nature reserve: the best-preserved dunes and salt marshes on the Catalan coast outside the Ebro Delta, part of the Natura 2000 network, squeezed between the sea and the railway line. A 400 m stretch of the beach is designated by the Costa Daurada tourism board for naturists, and it is on the Club Català de Naturisme's list of nude beaches; the rest of the beach is used by clothed bathers, families and walkers. The dunes are fragile and visitors are asked to keep to the marked paths and boardwalks, as uncontrolled trampling has opened many small tracks in the past. The beach has more services than most natural beaches in Catalonia: lifeguards, showers, footbaths and toilets in season, an amphibious wheelchair, and a 452 m sensory trail adapted for blind and partially sighted visitors. The wetland is also a well-known birdwatching site.

Getting there

Torredembarra railway station, on the coastal line, is less than 1 km from the Muntanyans, so the beach is easy to reach without a car. Drivers can approach from Torredembarra or from Creixell and park in the surrounding streets and car parks; spaces fill on summer weekends. Boardwalks and marked paths cross the dunes to the sand; stay on them to protect the reserve. The tourism board lists a flat entrance and an amphibious wheelchair, so parts of the beach are accessible, though the walk along the sand to the naturist stretch is not.

What visitors say

Guides describe a rare unspoilt beach on a heavily developed coast, with soft sand, shallow calm water and dunes that make it pleasant for long walks. Naturists use their designated stretch while the rest is mixed and family-oriented. Visitors appreciate the good services and easy train access, but note that the beach gets busy in high summer and that visitors are expected to respect dune protection. Birdwatchers value the wetland behind the beach.

Legal context

Public nudity is legal in Catalonia unless a municipal ordinance prohibits it, and the Costa Daurada tourism board (Diputació de Tarragona) lists a 400 m stretch of Els Muntanyans as designated for naturism (2026). The beach lies inside a Natura 2000 nature reserve, so leaving the paths through the dunes is restricted.

Naturism at Platja naturista Els Muntanyans sits under Spain's rules for officially designated nude beaches — explicit protection inside the marked area.
