About Platja des Cavallet
Es Cavallet is a 1.2 km beach of white and golden sand on the south-east tip of Ibiza, in Sant Josep de sa Talaia, within the Ses Salines natural park. Dunes and juniper scrub back the beach, and the salt pans lie inland. It is one of Spain's pioneer nude beaches, often said to have been Ibiza's first official naturist beach, in 1978, and nude bathing is accepted along most of it, while topless and clothed visitors also come. The southern end draws a largely gay crowd, while guides describe the northern part as quieter and more mixed. The water is usually calm and clear. Occupancy is high in summer. There are sunbed and umbrella rentals, toilets, showers, beach bars and water-sports rentals, but no lifeguard is listed.
Getting there
From Ibiza town or the airport, follow the PM-802 towards Ses Salines and turn off for Es Cavallet. There is a car park behind the dunes, and boardwalks lead over the dunes to the sand; stay on them to protect the vegetation. In summer, buses run to nearby Ses Salines, from where you can walk along the shore.
What visitors say
Visitors describe a relaxed, liberal beach with fine sand, clear water and a mix of nude, topless and clothed bathers. Many single out the gay-popular southern end, while others prefer the quieter northern stretch; some reviewers find little real difference. Complaints are mainly about summer crowds, parking and beach-bar prices.
