About Platja de Sant Simó
Sant Simó is the northernmost and least built-up beach in Mataró, the capital of the Maresme coast about 30 km north-east of Barcelona. The Spanish Naturist Federation describes the nudist beach as running from the Riera de Sant Simó stream to the area of the Hotel Castell de Mata, a stretch of roughly 1 to 1.1 km. The sand is light and golden, the beach is fairly narrow (around 20 m according to the FEN), and the water is usually calm. Like the rest of this coast, it lies between the sea and the Barcelona–Mataró–Maçanet railway, with the N-II road running just inland. It is a Blue Flag beach. Nudity is customary along this stretch, and a Catalan news map lists it among the Maresme's nude beaches alongside La Musclera and Ponent. The FEN rates use as high in summer, mainly by locals from Mataró and nearby towns rather than tourists. Facilities are fairly basic: there are showers, and bars and cafés are within walking distance, but the FEN records no lifeguard on this section. It is less dramatic than the coves of the Costa Brava, but it is an easy option by train from Barcelona.
Getting there
Take the Rodalies R1 train from Barcelona to Mataró station. The beach is a little over 1.3 km (about 20 minutes' walk) north-east along the seafront. Mataró's urban bus line 3 stops at Sant Simó, about 100 m from the sand. By car, Mataró is reached via the N-II or the C-32 motorway; there is street parking in the Sant Simó area, which gets busy on summer weekends.
What visitors say
There are relatively few detailed reviews. Directory and local sources describe Sant Simó as a clean, well-kept beach that is quieter than Mataró's central beaches, with a mix of nude and clothed locals. Its train connection is the main draw for visitors from Barcelona. Some mention nearby cafés and public toilets. The railway and the road behind the beach mean it is not a secluded spot, and it can be crowded on hot summer weekends.
