About Platja de S'Alga

S'Alga, called Es Racó de S'Alga by the Spanish Naturist Federation, is the main beach of S'Espalmador, the small, uninhabited islet just north of Formentera's Es Trucadors peninsula. The islet is part of the Ses Salines natural park, which protects it from development, and has no roads, houses or shops. The beach is a sweeping crescent of white sand around a sheltered bay on the islet's south side. The FEN lists it as a beach of nudist tradition and gives it a length of about 1 km and a width of around 20 metres, with calm water and a medium level of use. In summer the bay fills with anchored yachts and day-trip boats, and many people on the beach arrive by sea. The FEN data mentions a lifeguard, but there are no bars, restaurants or other facilities, so visitors need to bring water, food and shade. Away from the boat landing area, nude bathing is normal and widely accepted. The dunes and posidonia seagrass beds are protected, and visitors are asked to stay on marked paths and avoid disturbing the dune vegetation. Because of its remoteness, it is one of the quietest naturist beaches in the Pitiusas outside the peak weeks of July and August.

Getting there

S'Espalmador can only sensibly be reached by sea. In summer, small passenger boats run from La Savina port on Formentera (and some excursions from Ibiza) to the bay, and many visitors arrive on private or charter boats. Wading across the shallow channel from the northern tip of Ses Illetes is strongly discouraged because currents make it dangerous. There are no paths suitable for wheelchairs, no parking and no services on the islet.

What visitors say

Travel guides describe S'Espalmador as a wild, unspoiled spot that naturists value precisely because it is uninhabited and hard to reach. Visitors praise the white sand and clear, shallow water, but warn that the bay can be crowded with boats in high summer and that you must be self-sufficient, as nothing is sold on the islet. Guides strongly advise against trying to walk or wade across from Ses Illetes. Reports are limited and mostly come from boating visitors.
