About Ogella Hondartza
Ogella (Ogeia in Basque) is a remote beach on the Bizkaia coast in the municipality of Ispaster, between Lekeitio and Ea, well away from any village. It sits at the foot of green coastal hills in a small bay open to the Bay of Biscay. The shore runs for roughly 450 m and alternates stretches of rounded stones and boulders with patches of sand, so expect uneven ground rather than a smooth sandy strand. It faces open Atlantic swell and the Spanish Naturist Federation's data sheet rates bathing conditions as strong surf, so it is not a calm swimming beach. The beach appears on the federation's list of beaches with a nudist tradition, and Basque travel guides describe it the same way, although the Environment Ministry's beach guide does not class it as nudist and nobody describes a separate nude zone: nude and clothed visitors share the beach. Despite its isolation it has basic summer services, including a lifeguard, showers and toilets.
Getting there
Ogella is reached by car from the BI-3238 coast road between Lekeitio and Ea, turning off through the Larrinaga neighbourhood (Larrinaga Auzoa) of Ispaster; the access is signposted and guides call it easy by car. There is an unguarded car park for very roughly 50-100 cars near the beach, from which you walk down to the shore. The beach is far from any village, so a car is effectively needed. The stony surface makes it unsuitable for wheelchairs.

Legal context
Spain has no national law against public nudity, and nude bathing is lawful on any beach unless a municipal bylaw restricts it. Ispaster has no known nudist designation or ban for Ogella; it is listed by the Spanish Naturist Federation as a beach of nudist tradition, while the national Environment Ministry beach guide does not mark it as nudist (noted in a 2018 eldiario.es guide). No enforcement conflicts were found.
Naturism at Ogella Hondartza sits under Spain's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.

Frequently asked questions
Is nudity allowed at Ogella?
Yes. Nude bathing is not prohibited on Spanish beaches and Ogella is listed by the Spanish Naturist Federation as a beach of nudist tradition, though it is not a designated nudist beach.
Is there parking?
Yes, an unguarded car park above the beach reached from the BI-3238 via Larrinaga; arrive early on hot weekends.
Is it good for swimming?
It is exposed to Atlantic swell and the bottom is stony, so swimming can be rough; a lifeguard is on duty in summer.
What facilities are there?
Showers, toilets and foot-washing points, plus a summer lifeguard. There is no bar on the beach.
