About Nessebar Nude Beach

The informal nude area of Nessebar lies at the far southern end of Nessebar South Beach, the long sandy bay that curves south-west from the new town of Nessebar toward Ravda on Bulgaria's southern Black Sea coast. The north-eastern part of South Beach is a typical resort strip with sunbeds, umbrellas and bars. Toward the south-west it becomes a free zone without concessions, and welcome.bg notes that its southernmost stretch, reached by unpaved roads, is used by nudists. Here the beach lies beneath low cliffs, which is unusual on this coast and gives natural shade that spreads across the sand through the afternoon. The sand is fine, the water is usually calm and clear with little seaweed, and the wind is stronger near the waterline than under the cliffs. There are no facilities on the nude section. Recent visitor reports describe a high share of nude bathers, a mix of locals and tourists, younger couples and singles, and a relaxed atmosphere, with more space if you walk a little further along. The main complaint is litter, chiefly cigarette butts.

Getting there

From Nessebar drive toward the Chateau del Marina apartment complex and continue past it on dirt tracks to the cliff top, where cars park informally for free. Some tracks are sandy, and low cars can get stuck. From the cliff top a short but steep path of loose gravel leads down to the beach; it is slippery in flip-flops and not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. There is no public transport to the spot. You can walk along the sand from the resort part of South Beach or from Ravda, which takes considerably longer.

What visitors say

Visitors who reached it describe it as one of the more clearly naturist spots on the Bulgarian coast, with nude bathers in the majority rather than a handful at the edge of a textile beach. They praise the cliff shade, calm clear water and easy-going crowd, which is busiest on summer afternoons. Downsides mentioned are patchy litter, no toilets or refreshments, a steep loose path down, and sandy access tracks that can trap small cars. Walking a short way along the beach usually gives more room.

Legal context

Bulgarian law neither clearly permits nor bans nude bathing, and there is no designated nude beach at Nessebar; nudity here is customary rather than authorised. Elsewhere on the southern coast police have fined nudists after complaints (Delfin beach, Tsarevo municipality), so keep to the established southern end and cover up when walking through the textile zone.

Naturism at Nessebar Nude Beach sits under Bulgaria's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.

Frequently asked questions

Where exactly is the nude area?

At the far southern end of Nessebar South Beach, below the low cliffs beyond the Chateau del Marina complex, away from the sunbed concessions further north-east.

Is nudity legal here?

It is customary rather than officially designated. Bulgarian law is unclear on nude bathing, so keep to the established nude end and be discreet near textile beachgoers.

Is there parking?

Yes, informal free parking on the cliff top, reached by dirt tracks that can be sandy. A short, steep gravel path leads down.

Are there facilities?

None on the nude section. Bring water and food, or walk back to the bars on the resort part of South Beach.
