About Naaktstrand Vuren
Naaktstrand Vuren is a small, tolerated nude beach on the south bank of the Waal, about 3 km east of Gorinchem near Fort Vuren. It lies in the Hondswaard, a roughly 1 km floodplain owned by Staatsbosbeheer that stretches from the dike at Fort Vuren to the former Heuff brickworks. The nude spot is one of three small sandy beaches between the river's groynes, about 350 m of sand with a strip of rough grassland behind it. A former clay-pit lake ringed by bushes screens it from the road, so it feels hidden. Nudity is only accepted on the sand: after Staatsbosbeheer threatened fines in 2014, talks with the NFN settled that the meadow, which has a public footpath, stays clothed. Galloway cattle and Konik horses graze the floodplain and sometimes wander onto the beach; leave them alone. The shore has sharp shells and water plants, and the Waal is a busy shipping river with strong currents between the groynes, so paddling is safer than swimming. There are no facilities.
Getting there
Park for free at the Fort Vuren car park or on top of the dike, roughly 500 m from the beach. Follow the Vurensche Polderpad walking route through the meadows; bicycles are not allowed in the Hondswaard and must be left at the fence by the entrance. A bus stop is about 15 minutes' walk away. Dike works have occasionally complicated access. Not wheelchair accessible.
What visitors say
Reviews describe a small, hidden and generally relaxed spot looked after by volunteers who help keep it clean. Several visitors recommend water shoes because of sharp shells, and warn against swimming in the river current. Opinions are mixed overall: some report voyeurs and unwanted sexual behaviour, while others say volunteers and occasional police checks keep it respectful. Grazing cattle are a regular, harmless feature.

Amenities
Legal context
Nude recreation is tolerated (gedoogd), not formally designated. In 2014 landowner Staatsbosbeheer threatened fines; after consultation with the NFN it agreed to tolerate nudity on the sand beach only, not the meadow with the walking path. Sexual nuisance is monitored, and cycling into the area was banned in 2014 partly to curb voyeurism.
Naturism at Naaktstrand Vuren sits under Netherlands's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.

Frequently asked questions
Is nudity allowed at Vuren?
It is tolerated by landowner Staatsbosbeheer, but only on the sand beach, not on the meadow or footpath.
Can I swim in the Waal here?
It is risky: currents between the groynes and suction from passing ships are dangerous, so most people only paddle.
Where do I park?
Free parking at Fort Vuren or on the dike, then walk; bikes are not allowed in the area.
Are there facilities?
None. Bring water and take your rubbish home.
