About Naaktstrand Neeltje Jans
Neeltje Jans is the former construction island in the middle of the Oosterschelde storm-surge barrier, between Schouwen-Duiveland and Noord-Beveland in Zeeland. It is now a nature reserve within Oosterschelde National Park and is also home to the Deltapark Neeltje Jans attraction. The beach on the North Sea side is about 2 km long. Its middle part is a signed nude zone, which begins at beach access 84 (De Slufter) and runs south toward access 83 (Roompotsluis). It was enlarged in 2026, so from the southern car park you now step almost straight onto the nude section. The sand is wide, but at high tide the beach becomes much narrower. Behind it is a slufter, a tidal inlet that floods the land behind the dunes at spring tides. The dunes are a protected nature area and closed to visitors. The middle of the beach is often almost empty. The southern tip, where kitesurfers launch, gets busier on windy days and when lessons are running. There are no facilities in the nude zone itself. The nearest beach pavilion, Atlantis, is about a kilometre north. In season an ice-cream cart passes along the beach.
Getting there
Neeltje Jans is on the N57 coastal road over the Oosterschelde barrier. There are two free car parks, one north and one south of the nude section, with bicycle parking at access 84. After the 2026 extension the southern car park leads almost directly onto the nude section. From the larger northern car park it is a walk of roughly 1 km or more along the beach. The nearest bus stop, Deltapark Neeltje Jans, is about 2 km away. Reaching the beach involves soft sand and dune paths, so access for wheelchair users is poor.
What visitors say
Reviewers rate Neeltje Jans highly for its quiet, space, clean water and good swimming, and some call it one of the most pleasant nude beaches in the Netherlands. Parking is free, which visitors appreciate. Common complaints include kitesurfers and kite schools at the southern end, thin signage, few bins, a long walk from some parking spots and no toilets nearby. Since 2024 dead seals and porpoises have been left on the middle of the beach near De Slufter, which causes smells. A few visitors mention men walking back and forth in the dunes, and the beach gets busier in high season.

Legal context
The municipality of Veere banned nude recreation here in 2005. With legal support from the naturist federation NFN, the beachgoers who had been fined were acquitted, and the municipality officially designated a nude zone in 2007, agreed with the NFN. In 2020 municipal enforcement officers checked that people stayed within the zoning. The 2026 enlargement was to be written into the local bylaw (APV). The dunes are closed nature reserve, and entering them can lead to a fine.
Naturism at Naaktstrand Neeltje Jans sits under Netherlands's rules for officially designated nude beaches — explicit protection inside the marked area.
