About Naaktstrand Maasvlakte
The Maasvlakte nude beach is on the North Sea side of the Maasvlakte, the land reclaimed for the Port of Rotterdam at the far western tip of South Holland. Container terminals and wind turbines are part of the view. Since the beach reopened in 2012 there has been a signed nude zone between the clothed bathing beach and the sports beach further north. It started at 2,500 m and was cut to 500 m. In 2023 it was extended by 500 m northward, so it now runs about 1 km. It begins at the stairs from car park P1, where you turn right (north). The beach is wide and sandy, backed by dunes where the sand is soft, and the seabed shelves gently. The water is an official bathing-water site (Tweede Maasvlakte) with summer quality checks. Visitors are a mix of couples, families and single people. Since 2024 the rooftop terrace of the Portlantis harbour experience centre has overlooked the area, and the federation has raised the possibility that the nude section may have to move. Bring your own food and drink: on the beach there is only a snack container at a car park and a kiosk a few hundred metres away.
Getting there
Drive to the Maasvlakte via the A15 and follow signs to the beach (Maasvlakte strand). Parking is free. Use car park P1, where stairs lead onto the sand at the start of the nude zone. On hot days the car park fills by about 10:00. Public transport is poor: the nearest bus stop, Maasvlakte Plaza, is about 3.5 km away on foot. Wind-blown sand has at times buried the stairs, which makes the climb awkward for people with limited mobility. The beach is not suitable for wheelchairs.
What visitors say
Most visitors describe a broad, clean beach with good swimming, free parking and a relaxed, sociable mix of couples, families and solo visitors. The most common complaint is men loitering or watching from the dunes. Clothed beachgoers also wander into the nude section on busy days because many miss the signs. Other drawbacks are the lack of toilets near the nude section, the soft sand and sometimes buried stairs at the access, and the Portlantis roof terrace overlooking the beach. Accounts disagree on how far north the nude zone now runs, so look for the signs on the beach.

Legal context
Under Dutch law (Criminal Code art. 430a) nudity is permitted where the municipality designates it or where the place is suitable. The Maasvlakte zone is signposted and listed as an official nude beach by the Dutch naturist federation NFN, which worked with the Port of Rotterdam on the site. In 2026 the NFN reported that the sign at the beach access had been moved to separate the nude and clothed areas more clearly. Management of the beach passed from the port authority to Rijkswaterstaat in 2024.
Naturism at Naaktstrand Maasvlakte sits under Netherlands's rules for officially designated nude beaches — explicit protection inside the marked area.
