About Naaktstrand Delft
Delft's nude bathing spot is not on the coast. It sits on the north-east shore of the Grote Plas, the swimming lake in the middle of the Delftse Hout recreation park at the edge of the city. The nude area is small, about 0.6 hectares. It is a sunbathing lawn, not a sand beach, and the public footpath that loops around the lake runs straight through it. There is a campsite on the south side of the lake. In the water the bottom stays shallow for a long way, and a floating line marks off a section about 1.5 m deep. Stone bank protection makes the edge steep, so it suits small children less well. Sharp freshwater mussel shells lie along the shoreline, which makes water shoes worth packing. Egyptian geese are common, and their droppings on the grass are a frequent complaint. The spot has a contested history. The municipality designated it as a nude area in 1984 and withdrew the designation in 2013, citing sexual nuisance. Regular visitors kept coming and some were fined. The courts eventually acquitted them, and since July 2014 nudity has been tolerated again on the original site, although there are no signs.
Getting there
Delftse Hout is on the edge of Delft and is easy to reach by bike, with bicycle parking at the nude lawn. Free parking is about 100 m from the site. A bus stop is listed at roughly 25 minutes away, so cycling or driving is more practical. Once inside the park, follow the footpath along the Grote Plas to its north-east side. The lawn lies right beside the path, and because the ground is flat and grassy it is described as suitable for wheelchair users.
What visitors say
Most accounts come from Dutch naturist guides, which describe a loyal group of regulars who fought to keep the lawn nude after the 2013 closure. The setting is a city park, so walkers, cyclists and clothed park users pass through on the lakeside path. Past problems with sexual activity led to the closure and to frequent police patrols. Practical complaints centre on goose droppings on the grass and sharp mussel shells in the shallows.

Legal context
Under Dutch law (Criminal Code art. 430a) nudity is allowed at places the municipality designates and at places suitable for it. Delft withdrew its 1984 designation in April 2013, but after appeals that reached the Supreme Court (2015), the Hague appeal court acquitted all fined nudists in January 2017, finding the prosecution had not shown the site was unsuitable. Nude use has been tolerated since July 2014 without signage, and police patrol the park against sexual nuisance.
Naturism at Naaktstrand Delft sits under Netherlands's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.

Frequently asked questions
Is nude sunbathing legal at the Delftse Hout?
It is tolerated. The official designation was withdrawn in 2013, but the courts acquitted fined nudists in 2017, and nudity has been accepted again on the original lawn since July 2014. There are no signs.
Is there sand?
No. The nude area is a grass lawn on the north-east shore of the Grote Plas, about 0.6 hectares in size.
Where do I park?
Free parking is about 100 m away, and there is bicycle parking at the lawn itself.
Is it good for children?
The water stays shallow for a long way, but the steep stone bank, sharp mussel shells and the site's history of sexual nuisance make it a less obvious choice for families.
