About Mauren
Mauren is an official naturist beach on Ellingsøya, the island just north-east of Ålesund across the Ellingsøyfjorden. It lies on the island's shore facing the fjord, a short way east of the bridge over Taftsundet. It is part of a larger public outdoor recreation area. The beach is smooth, sloping rock rather than sand. Norsk Naturistforbund says these rocks make it well suited to small children. Facilities are good for a Norwegian nude beach, with drinking water, toilets and a rubbish bin on site. The rocks are reached through a small strip of woodland, only about 100 m from the roadside car park, and a bus stop is about 150 m away.
Getting there
From Ålesund, drive through the undersea tunnel to Ellingsøya and continue east for about 400 m past the bridge over Taftsundet. A car park with plenty of space is on the right side of the road. From there, follow the path about 100 m south through a small wood to the rocks. The nearest bus stop is about 150 m from the beach.

Naturism at Mauren sits under Norway's rules for officially designated nude beaches — explicit protection inside the marked area.
