About Little Congwong Beach
Little Congwong is a small, sheltered cove at La Perouse on the northern shore of Botany Bay, in Kamay Botany Bay National Park. It lies just past the main Congwong Beach, tucked between sandstone headlands, with fine sand, calm water facing into the bay, and rock pools at the edges. It is not an officially recognised nude beach: Randwick City Council says so explicitly, while noting occasional reports of nudity, and naturist guides class it as an unofficial, tolerated clothing-optional spot traditionally used by nudists. Being small, it fills quickly on hot weekends. The beach is unpatrolled and managed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service. Swimming should be avoided during and for 24 hours after heavy rain because of stormwater runoff, and in June 2026 NPWS warned against swimming at Congwong and Little Congwong after a shark attack at nearby Coogee, so check current alerts.
Getting there
Drive to La Perouse via Anzac Parade and park at the Congwong Beach car park off La Perouse Loop Road, or take bus 394 from Circular Quay to La Perouse and walk about 15 minutes. From Congwong Beach, a short bush track continues to Little Congwong; it is rocky in parts. Public toilets, shops and cafés are at La Perouse. Not suitable for wheelchairs.
What visitors say
Visitors describe Little Congwong as a pretty, quiet and sheltered cove with calm water, good for a discreet nude swim, with a mixed crowd that includes many gay men. Because nudity is only tolerated, guides advise discretion, and some report onlookers and occasional cruising in the surrounding bush. The rocky final stretch and limited space are the main drawbacks.
